Consider These Things Before Launching Your New Website

Before you go ahead and launch your website on the Internet, there are a few things you should consider before doing so. Getting your website ready for launch is not enough, and if you are not careful, the months of hard work that you have put in might not give you the results you expect. Here is a list of 5 points to check before go live with your website design.

1.    Title Tags & Meta Data

Do not forget to include title tags on all your web pages and make sure the title tags of all pages are not the same. This is a mistake which can deprive you from the SEO benefits. The title tags have a large weighting with the search engines and these tags help inform the search engines what your page is about. Each of the pages on your website should have unique and relevant title tags for maximum SEO benefits.

2.    Browser Compatibility:

Before you launch your website, you must check if your website is compatible with every known browsers that we have today. If users cannot see your website the way it is intended than you could be losing business. To avoid this make sure that your website responds to all known browsers, viz., IE 6,7 and 8, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Chrome, Opera and the iPhone. A good tool for this is Adobe Browser Lab (it's free).

3.    Error Free Content:

Try to keep your content as error free as possible. It may not matter to you but some people cannot stand bad grammer and spelling. Check all your website contents for mistakes and bad English and correct or re-write them.

4.    Broken Links:

Do not leave the links in your website unchecked. Broken links are major causes of frustration for visitors to your site. All the links that you provide in your website should take your visitor to the right page, for example, your logo should always point to your 'home page' and there should no link that create a 404 error.

5.    404 Error Page:

This is an important element in your website design process. If any visitor looks for a page in your website which does not exist, a 404 error page should be displayed. This page should also guide the visitor back to the website. In this page, you should explain to the visitor why they have arrived on the 404 error page and provide a link back to the homepage or previous page.
